God Is The Creator Of Everything That Exists

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. It looks like this post is about creation, but it’s really about who we should worship. Since God is the creator of everything that exists, why would we want to worship anyone else?

Say this to those who worship other gods: “Your so-called gods, who did not make the heavens and earth, will vanish from the earth and from under the heavens.”  Jeremiah 10:11

By Jeremiah’s statement, and other verses in the Bible, we know that God made the heavens and the earth. We humans, have no idea how big the universe is. So how do we describe it? Infinity.

Visualize this, you had a big container of red glitter and you dumped it out into a pile. But as you were dumping you saw one flake that was silver. Then perfection set in and you desperately wanted to get that silver one out of there.

I don’t know about you, but for me, I would be all thumbs. I would have that glitter all spread out in a mess looking for that silver one. Those flakes would be sticking all over my fingers. Then, as I got aggravated and sighed a big breath, glitter would fly all over the place.

The Earth In The Universe

That is the perspective of the earth in this vast universe. The planet we live on is like that silver flake of glitter in the entire cosmos. Fortunately, God has everything sorted out and He is not all thumbs.

God the creator won't share worship with any other

God can reach through the galaxies without stopping a planet. In His reach, He can do it without interfering with an orbit or messing up a solar system. He can do all of that just to knock over a hand-made god.

In his vastness, He could hold the earth in his hand and pitch it like a baseball into infinity. Verse 16 says He is the Creator of everything that exists, including Israel, his own special possession. Yet Israel and the Gentiles can be quick to worship a created object and ignore the creator.

God the Creator of Everything Loves Us

Hand-made gods didn’t create a thing. Listen to how absurd it is to even worship a piece of wood. This verse in Isaiah is talking about cutting down a tree from the forest.

Then he uses part of the wood to make a fire. With it he warms himself and bakes his bread. Then—yes, it’s true—he takes the rest of it and makes himself a god to worship! He makes an idol and bows down in front of it! Isaiah 44:15

Thankfully God the creator loves us all. Think about this. The earth in the universe is comparatively like a flake of glitter. And we are just a speck on the earth, how much smaller does that make us?

I didn’t say any of that to make you feel small. I said it so you would know how important you are to God. And how much God loves us and wants to have fellowship with us.

Lord, forgive us when we allow things to become a priority over you.
