Forgiveness

We are to trust God for justice and forgive the person who offended us. That does not mean we must forget the offense, however; usually, that’s beyond our power. Forgiveness means releasing the other from blame, leaving the event in God’s hands, and moving on.

Psychologists generally define forgiveness as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they actually deserve your forgiveness. … It does not mean forgetting, nor does it mean condoning or excusing offenses.

Here’s what the Bible says about God’s forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Daniel 9:9 “The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.”
