Obadiah
The Book of Obadiah is an oracle concerning the divine judgment of Edom and the restoration of Israel. The text consists of a single chapter, divided into 21 verses, making it the shortest book in the Old Testament.
Obadiah was a prophet (holy man). This book contains a short message about the country called Edom. The people from Edom were relatives of the people from Israel. But the inhabitants of Edom refused to help when the people from Israel suffered. So, God would punish the people from Edom for this evil deed. God would destroy their country.
Obadiah is one of the Twelve Minor Prophets. According to the Talmud, he is said to have been a convert to Judaism from Edom, a descendant of Eliphaz, the friend of Job.
