What Is The Will Of God For Me?

What is the will of God for me? I don’t know how many times in my Christian life I have entertained that question. When we ask it, what are we usually seeking? Aren’t we looking for God’s direction and purpose for our life?

We want to know what type of ministry the Lord wants to use us in. We are ready to go, but sometimes the Lord says NO! At least, not yet.

Before we can or should pursue those things, we need to make sure we know the fundamentals of Christianity. And that we are living them.

God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin.   1 Thessalonians 4:3

Does that shock you? The will of God for you and me is to be holy. Many people view “being holy” as living a legalistic lifestyle.

That simply means doing certain things, wearing certain clothes, and abstaining from certain activities. And if you choose to live like that you have that freedom. But we can’t make that type of lifestyle a necessity to maintain our salvation.

Biblical Holiness

Will Of God For Me

The holiness spoken about in the Bible means being separated to God. This chapter begins with the following verse.

Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. 1 Thessalonians 4:1

Paul told his readers, you’re doing great. But don’t let your guard down because the lust of the flesh can pop up at a moment’s notice.

Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor— not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. 1 Thessalonians 4:4-5

Therefore Christians must live with godly morals. If they don’t, the next verse tells us there will be consequences.

Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. 1 Thessalonians 4:6

A Christian involved in sexual sins defiles their body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Also, they draw someone else into their sin along with them.

Maintain the Will of God

Involvement in sexual sins makes us directly disobedient to God’s Word and our testimony becomes shattered. The next verse emphasizes the importance of being holy.

God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.  1 Thessalonians 4:7-8

Today the enemy of our souls is having a field day promoting the lust of the flesh. He will happily tempt you through your electronic devices and by any other means.

Therefore we must remember that the will of God for you and me is holiness. And we must live it every day.

Lord, help us to stay pure and holy while we live in this sinful world. Keep us clean from the lust of the flesh that is always trying to infiltrate our lives.
