One of the things I like about the Bible is it distinctively says, there is one God. It doesn’t start by saying, “In the beginning, there was a God, and he created everything.” It doesn’t try to prove that He exists. No, it starts with, “In the beginning, God…”
This is what the Lord says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies: “I am the First and the Last; there is no other God. Isaiah 44:6
The Lord revealed himself many times to Isaiah. Look what He said in chapter 43.
You are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the Lord. “You are my servant. You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God—there never has been, and there never will be. Isaiah 43:10
He Is the First and the Last
Our verse today says, “I am the First and the Last.” Does that indicate that the Lord has a beginning and an end? I don’t think so. In our finite mind, we only understand things based on time. We have no concept at all about eternity.
He said in verse 13 of chapter 43, From eternity to eternity I am God. The point he was making was there was none before him because. “there is no other God.”
In Isaiah the Lord was not trying to prove that there is a God. He has certainly established that fact from creation. God was declaring who He is.
Who is like me? Let him step forward and prove to you his power. Let him do as I have done since ancient times when I established a people and explained its future . . . You are my witnesses—is there any other God? No! There is no other Rock—not one!” Isaiah 44:7,8
What was happening was the Israelites seemed to be easily influenced. Because of that, they had a hard time trying to determine who or what they would be worshiping. Satan has always used the tactic of multiple gods, thus bringing confusion to people.
All the nations living around Israel worshiped a different god or gods back then. the Lord was telling his people that there is only one God. And He is not a god fashioned by human hands.
Satan Diverts People’s Thinking from the One True God
The enemy has adjusted his tactic as time has moved on. He has been working hard at eliminating God in people’s minds and hearts. Satan has now convinced a large part of society that there is no god at all.
Not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, nor the gods represented by little figurines and statues that people have worshiped. And He has reduced the cross to decorations and necklaces.
We, however know better. We know that Jesus came to the earth. He died on the cross and rose from the grave. Now sits at the right hand of the Father making intercession for all who call upon His name. He is our Redeemer and cleanses us from all sin. God told this through the prophet Isaiah.
“I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.” Isaiah 43:25
Lord, we have no one else to turn to in our time of need, but you. You are the giver and sustainer of all life. You offer eternal life through your Son, Jesus. Thank you for being there when we call upon your name.

God never began, but He will never end!!! LOVE IT. So simple really. It is sad so many people, like myself in earlier in life, didn’t get it. We need to teach it when they are in the womb, and continually throughout their pre-adult lives. This way, when they do head off to stake their own claim in life, that they do it with God, and they do it knowing they are getting the most life has to offer in a great Counselor.
You’re right. The simplicity of it is instead of God explaining things to us, we just need to accept everything about God by faith. Thanks for the comment.
Yes, God has always been there and always will. I think people sometimes deny God because it leaves them not to be accountable to God. And some people can’t fathom God can love them as much as He does. We definitely need God now.
Thanks Elizabeth, I agree with you.
