Jesus Is The Mediator That Job Never Had

Job was a very unique person. Here is what God said about him. He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil. I don’t think he ever thought he would be in a position where he needed to defend himself. His problem was that Job lived before Jesus became our Mediator.

God is not a mortal like me, so I cannot argue with him or take him to trial. If only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together.  Job 9:32-33

The Book of Job is reportedly the oldest book in the Bible. We don’t exactly know when in history Job lived, but he did have quite a bit of knowledge about God and creation.

Because of the vastness of God, Job understood having an audience with God wasn’t going to happen. Therefore he had this wonderful idea. We need someone to stand in the gap between us and God.

Moses came Close to Seeing God

God walked in the Garden of Eden in the evenings with Adam and Eve before they sinned. There was only one other person who came close to seeing God and that was Moses.

“Look, stand near me on this rock. As my glorious presence passes by, I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and let you see me from behind. But my face will not be seen.” Exodus 33:21-23

Job knew he would need someone to stand between him and God, a mediator. But there was none during his lifetime.

Jesus is the Mediator

We Have the Mediator that Job Never Had

Jesus was the mediator that Job talked about. Unfortunately, Job didn’t have a Mediator. God did however communicate with him at the end of the book. He restored Job with twice as much as he had before.

When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before! So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. Job 42:10,12

When Jesus was on the earth, He said that He and the Father were one. And because Jesus died as a sinless human being on the cross, He became the acceptable sacrifice for us. He paid the price for our sin so we wouldn’t have to.

When you put those two things together, Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. Therefore, He is the only who was qualified to stand in the gap that Job talked about. When we accept what Jesus did for us, He cleansed us of all sin. We become sinless in the eyes of God and He is never far from us.

Lord, there was a gap that was created by the sin of man. Thank you for bridging that gap through Jesus. And making it possible for us to enter into your presence.
