What God Has Prepared For Those Who Love Him

Jesus told us in John 14 that He is going to prepare a place for us. That where He is there we can be also. I personally think that eternity is going to be very exciting. I do have to confess, I wonder, what has God prepared for those who love Him?

“That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9

God all along had a glorious plan for those who turned their lives to Him. In verse 7 it says his plan was previously hidden. He goes on to say, God came up with this plan before the world began for our ultimate glory.

So now we know that God has a plan for us which was revealed to Paul by His Spirit. And because we have the Spirit of God within us, God’s plan is made real to us as well. Verse 12 says,

We have received God’s Spirit, so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. 1 Corinthians 2:12

We know then that God has wonderful things planned for us. We can’t imagine though, what they are going to be like. Can you answer this question? What has God prepared for those who love Him?

For Those Who Love Him

The phrase at the end of that question, “for those who love Him,” is very important. Because verse 14 says,

But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:14

That verse goes on to say this. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it. For only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Does that make Christians better than others? No! It does mean that more has been revealed to us about God’s glory.

We have all heard the stories of how some people have had an experience after death. They’ve reported what it was like on the other side. Some say it was quite beautiful. Others reported how the music was played in harmonies that we have never heard before.

Some have stated that they had talked with people there, even Jesus. They had also recognized others they had known or seen in pictures. Then they see themselves coming back to their own bodies and resuming life again.

Do I believe what these people had seen and heard? I have no reason not to believe them. Do I think that they went to heaven? Well…, I’ve got to say I don’t. I don’t know where they went or what they had seen.

What Has God Prepared?

What has God Prepared

But, this one thing I do know is; no eye has seen, and if this verse is still relevant for today then – no eye has seen, and no ear has heard.  Do I believe that these people saw and experienced something? Absolutely! It’s obvious God gave them an enjoyable experience.

According to this verse of scripture, though, what they experienced doesn’t compare to what God is preparing for us. Paul says no eye has seen, and no ear has heard. But he doesn’t stop there. He says we can’t even imagine. No mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.

There is no doubt in my mind that these folks died and experienced a taste of eternity. According to their testimony, it is gorgeous. Then they came back to life. The truth of the matter is, no one has seen the finished product and come back to tell about it.

My purpose in this writing is not to debate a person’s after-life experience. I’m looking forward to seeing what Jesus is preparing for us. And it is better than anything anyone has seen up until this point.

If you want to see it and live in it, then do what Paul did. He said I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. You see, God has got something specially prepared for all those who love him.

Lord, I look forward to being there for your grand opening! May my words, actions, and heart all reveal how much I love you.

You can read the entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 2

For a point of information, there are only two places to go in eternity. Everyone will go to one or the other. Once a person is there, it is forever. I wrote about the other place in a post called The Fire.

  1. Isn’t it amazing how many people think heaven will be boring–just sitting all alone on a cloud with nothing but a harp? I like you perception that even people who report dying and coming back to life haven’t seen the fulness of the glory. We’ll have plenty to do there, indistinguishable, I suppose, between work and play.

    • Thanks David. It sounds like you are looking forward to going to heaven also. I love that verse, No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared. God Bless and Merry Christmas
